Kursuse kirjeldus
This is a course about how other people see the world and what happens to your own view once you've tried theirs on.
A little history, never the boring kind. A little art, explained so anyone can follow. Mostly travel, food, literature and how people get along, because everyday life isn't the surface of a culture. It is the culture.
Every week: a new perspective from somewhere in the world, something to discuss, and usually something you've never heard before.
Taught in English. Ready to take a walk with me?
- Student describes how everyday practices — food, greetings, humour, family roles, hospitality — reflect the values and history of the cultures they come from
- Student applies an intercultural perspective to an unfamiliar situation, identifying what a person from another culture might reasonably see, expect, or find surprising
- Student evaluates a cross-cultural misunderstanding — from the news, from a film, or from personal experience — and assesses the perspectives on each side without dismissing either
✅ The grading of the course is non-differentiated (pass/fail).
📋 The prerequisite for passing the course is completing all self-evaluation tests with at least 80% correct answers and submitting both the mid-term and final project of the course.
👀 Participating in all online classes is not required for passing the course, but the course grade cannot be "Pass" if the student participates in fewer than 75% of the online classes.
👨🏫 The teacher can set additional criteria for passing the course.
